Work placements on offer at The Guardian
The Guardian is offering 12 two-week placements for students from BME communities this summer.
The paper has launched the initiative after research has shown an imbalance in the number of ethnic minorities in the media industry. The paper has expressed a belief that there should be a better representation of BME communities in journalism.
Successful applicants are promised an insight into the various workings of the newspaper, website and it’s multimedia department.
At the end of the two weeks, students are offered a chance to come back and spend one more week with the desk that they felt was most useful and interesting for them. The initial two weeks take place over the summer (July – September), the third week can take place at any time after, to suit the desk and the student.
Students will be assigned to a mentor, the scheme is unpaid and based in London.
