Police investigating racial abuse of Micah Richards on Twitter
Police are investigating after Manchester City footballer Micah Richards was sent a racist message on Twitter.
The 23-year-old received the abusive text, or tweet, from a stranger.
Richards replied: “Love the racist abuse, keep it coming.”
The England right-back was inundated with messages of support from fans across the social networking site.
One user posted: “Some people are pathetic and jealous. Keep calm and carry on.”
Another user said: “Don’t take it, report it. There’s no place for it in football or anywhere. Kick it out!”
The incident is now under investigation by Lincolnshire police as the offending Twitter account is believed to have been based there.
The force used their Twitter account to thank fans for alerting them to the abuse.
When contacted by the M.E.N a spokesperson for Manchester City said the club were aware of the incident but did not want to comment.
