Peruvian club fined $12,000 for racist fan chants
Peruvian club Real Garcilaso has been fined $12,000(US) following an incident last month in which club supporters racially abused black Brazilian player Tinga of Cruzeiro in a Copa Libertadores match.
CONMEBOL, the governing body of South American football, announced the fine on Monday (March 24) and warned the club could face stiffer penalties including playing future home matches in an empty stadium if similar incidents occur.
Tinga was taunted with chants during the game, won 2-1 by Real Garcilaso.
