‘Next 20’ ambassador scores brace in Merseyside derby
Everton loanee Romelu Lukaku proved to be the star turn for Kick It Out’s ‘Next 20’ ambassadors over the weekend as he scored two goals in a classic Merseyside derby.
The highly-rated Belgium youngster, signed on a temporary deal from Chelsea in September, brought the game level before putting the Toffees into a 3-2 lead.
England striker Daniel Sturridge prevented Romelu, who described the game as his ‘best experience in club football’, and his team-mates from gaining three points when he headed in a late equaliser.
Swansea City defender Ben Davies and Norwich City winger Nathan Redmond were also involved in Premier League fixtures this weekend.
Nathan assisted Leroy Fer with a goal in Norwich’s 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United, a game the Magpies had dedicated to Kick It Out’s ‘Season of Action’, at St James’ Park.
Ben started for Swansea in their 2-1 victory over struggling Fulham at Craven Cottage as Michael Laudrup’s side climbed up to 10th position.
In the Championship, Jamaal Lascelles and Nathaniel Chalobah both played a part in Nottingham Forest’s 1-1 draw with Burnley, with Nathaniel coming on as a 2nd half substitute
Barnsley loanee Jack Butland played the full 90 minutes as his side lost 1-0 to Millwall at the Den through an own goal from Scott Wiseman.
Andre Wisdom helped Derby County to a clean sheet as they continued their good form with a 1-0 away victory over Bournemouth, whilst Blackburn’s Jason Lowe played in a 0-0 draw with promotion chasers Reading at Ewood Park.
In League One, Michael Harriman was on the losing side for Gillingham as they were defeated by Oldham 1-0 at the Priestfield Stadium.
Coventry City striker Callum Wilson was unable to continue his goal-scoring run against Tranmere as the Sky Blues slumped to a 5-1 home defeat to the Wirral-based outfit.
Harry Maguire helped Sheffield United secure a crucial away victory over Bristol City whilst Walsall forward Romaine Sawyers played in a 0-0 draw against Crawley Town.
Elsewhere in League One, Swindon Town goalkeeper Wesley Foderingham played in their 3-1 defeat against table-toppers Leyton Orient at the County Ground and Daniel Powell played as Milton Keynes Dons suffered a 3-2 home loss to Bradford City.
