New anti-homophobia football website launched
Tackle, a brand new independent website addressing homophobia in football, has launched with an exclusive interview with Arsenal fan and Little Britain star Matt Lucas.
The website, which aims to break the silence within the game on homophobia, speaks to Matt about his love of the sport and how he feels the game can move forwards.
“I think what is likely is that someone will retire and then come out immediately after. Either that or someone extraordinary on the pitch will come out… basically we need a gay Lionel Messi!”, said Lucas.
On the prospects for a brighter future he added, “Fans want the best for the team. If a gay guy is scoring goals most of them won’t care less, I guarantee that.
“Elton John effectively saved Watford from going under. Do you think the fans there care that he’s gay?”
Through opinion, interviews and debate with football fans in the arts and media – both gay and straight – Tackle hopes to draw a more vocal response from those within the game itself.
