Marcus Gayle appointed Staines Town boss
Marcus Gayle has been unveiled as the new boss of Staines Town and immediately promised fans he would give them a team to be proud of.
The 41-year-old has left League Two side AFC Wimbledon – where he was reserve team manager – to take on the role at Wheatsheaf Park, and he is excited by the challenge.
“It’s a huge vote of confidence to be picked ahead of a lot of other applicants,” Gayle said. “I’ll be assessing the players and they will need to show they have the hunger and desire to play for this club.”
Staines Town endured a relegation fight in Blue Square South last season, finishing 15th in the table and only three points above the drop zone.
Chairman Matthew Boon said of the new boss: “Marcus ticked all the boxes for us. We are proud to have him as our manager and to have given him a first chance in management at first team level.”
