Luther Blissett completes charity bike ride
Kick It Out ambassador Luther Blissett kicked off a summer of charity challenges by completing the London to Brighton bike ride.
Luther completed the course on Sunday (20 June) in 4 hours and 30 minutes on a reconditioned bike he has owned since he was a boy.
The event raised money for the British Heart Foundation.
The former Watford FC striker said: “It was tough at times, especially up Ditchling Beacon, but I was continually cheered on by well-wishers. I was really pleased to beat Raj, my good friend, on a far better bike.”
Luther must now prepare for his next challenge, driving a car with Dame Kelly Holmes in the Silverstone Classic on July 23, to raise money for The Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK.
He said: “I’m hopefully going to organise a sponsorship evening in Watford before the event where the public can come and meet me and Dame Kelly and have their photos taken and sign my race car.”
Other celebrities in the race include chefs Heston Blumenthal and James Martin, Strictly Come Dancing star Brendan Cole, former rugby player Austin Healey and BBC news presenter Kate Silverton.
