Lord Ouseley comments on handling of Bassong incident
Kick It Out chair Lord Herman Ouseley has commented on the handling of the incident involving Norwich City defender Sebastien Bassong during this weekend’s game with Swansea City.
Lord Ouseley said: “We’re delighted with the way in which the incident was handled. It is a textbook way in which a player should complain and how this should be responded to.
“The process is there to provide protection and we encourage other players to see how all of those involved in Saturday’s incident can work together when these things take place.
“Everyone involved in the game should have confidence in the system and that incident can be dealt with at the time. One of Kick It Out’s roles is to raise awareness about what rights people have at their disposal and how they can be imposed.
“There is no point tweeting after the event and then not logging the complaint officially – we have to encourage the type of process we saw on Saturday.
“Kick It Out is at the forefront of raising awareness on issues like this in line with the football authorities – we’ve helped move the game on and are conscious of what still needs to be done.”
