Kick It Out's work wins social buzz award
Kick It Out’s groundbreaking work into the true extent of discrimination on social media in football won a prestigious social media award this week.
The Drum’s Social Buzz Awards celebrate and reward the very best in social media communications in the UK.
Football’s equality and inclusion organisation commissioned Tempero and Brandwatch to assess and draw trends from the data, which was collected from August 2014 to March 2015. Upon its release, the work attracted coverage from across the world, with Premier League managers being asked directly for their views on it in their press conferences.
Tempero were nominated for two awards, being highly commended in category of Best Socially Responsible Initiative and winning the Best Use of Insight/Monitoring award.
Anna Jӧnsson, Kick It Out’s Reporting Officer said: “We were not surprised when the results came out, as Kick It Out has led on hate crime in football and social media for some time. The results showed that it is a growing problem and by creating awareness of it, we can begin to tackle it.
“The award is a vote of confidence in our work, and we thank Tempero and Brandwatch for helping to see the true extent of discriminatory behaviour within football on social media. Out of these findings, we created a Social Media Expert Working Group, which is the only group that brings together the government, police, the football authorities and the networks themselves.”
