Kick It Out recognised at Football Black List celebration evening
Lord Herman Ouseley and Hayley Bennett were both recognised at the Football Black List celebration evening held last night (28 March) for their work at Kick It Out.
Supported by the Premier League, the Football Black List highlights and celebrates the successes of under-represented groups in the sport away from the field of play.
Lord Ouseley, Chair of Kick It Out, was recognised alongside Michael Emenalo, Technical Director at Chelsea FC, for his efforts in football administration during the celebration evening.
Speaking after accepting the award, Lord Ouseley stated the need for additional strides to be made to help black players progress into coaching roles following the conclusion of their playing careers.
“If all the black players said they aren’t going to play tomorrow, they’re going to have to do something about it, there’s no football. I’m not trying to advocate a strike but people need to recognise how powerful they are. After they’ve finished football and qualified as coaches they can’t get a job.”
Hayley was also recognised during the evening as one of five individuals chosen for the ‘One to Watch’ award. Hayley picked up the accolade alongside Kadeem Simmonds, Jeanette Kwakye, Christina Oshodi and Mimi Fawaz.
