Kick It Out features in BBC Radio 1 documentary about homophobia in football
Kick It Out features in a new BBC Radio 1 documentary on homophobia in football which is available to watch on iPlayer.
The documentary focuses on amateur LGBT team The London Titans and their newest recruit Tom – who quit playing football after homophobic abuse – as they seek to explore the reasons why there are over 2,000 professional male footballers in the English game today and not one is openly gay.
The London Titans will face off against a ‘lads’ team as they reveal their own personal stories and explore why ‘banter’ culture fuels ignorance towards homosexuality.
Troy Townsend, Kick It Out’s Education Manager, is interviewed in the documentary, reflecting on the organisation’s educational work in club academies which aims to challenge discriminatory attitudes in aspiring footballers.
The documentary is available to watch on BBC iPlayer here.
