Kick It Out director to speak on LGBT panel
Roisin Wood, Kick It Out’s Director, will speak as part of a panel looking at the ‘Business of Inclusion in Football’, to be held at Birkbeck, University of London on Monday (1 December).
Roisin will join three senior figures from across British football, all of whom have taken the lead on inclusion within football and who will be vital in maintaining the momentum and taking football into the next era.
The evening will focus on inclusion for people from the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) communities.
The panel will be chaired by Dr. Andy Harvey from Birkbeck and he will be joined by Bobby Barnes, Deputy Chief Executive of the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA), Mark Gonnella, Communications Director at Arsenal FC, and Kelly Simmons, Director of National Game and Women’s Football at The Football Association (FA). Simmons was also a keynote speaker at Kick It Out’s Women’s Raise Your Game conference in October.
The seminar aims to move the debate about inclusion on from anti-discrimination policies, practices and campaigns, to focus on the current work that is being done that still remains to be achieved to ensure that football is a welcoming and inclusive sport and business for people from all communities.
Roisin Wood said: “It’s really important to not only look back at the good work done by so many prominent organisations to promote inclusion within football, but also to look forward at the good work that there is still left to do.
“I’m really looking forward to joining representatives from The FA, PFA and Arsenal on 1 December at Birkbeck.”
The event is free to attend. Booking is required through Eventbrite, which can be accessed from here.
