Kick It Out CEO contributes to book focusing on inequalities within sport and leisure
By Charlie MacKinnon
Kick It Out’s Chief Executive Officer, Roisin Wood, has contributed to the ‘Sport, Leisure and Social Justice’ book published by Jonathan Long, Thomas Fletcher and Beccy Watson of Leeds Beckett University.
The book focuses on social inequalities research within sport and leisure and how they can also be sites of resistance as well as oppression; with Wood contributing the foreword to the published research.
Long, Fletcher and Watson explore different dimensions of inequality in sport and leisure (race and ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability and class), presenting research-based strategies in support of social justice by placing disadvantaged communities centre stage.
Covers topics such as coaching, anti-racism and youth sport, the book includes innovative theoretical, methodological and empirical material.
It also addresses issues affecting participation, inclusion and engagement in sport, while discussing the challenges faced by specific groups such as Muslim women and LGBT young people.
