Karren Brady gives her support ahead of Women’s Raise Your Game
West Ham United vice-chair Karren Brady has given her support to Kick It Out’s Women’s Raise Your Game conference taking place at the Boleyn Ground next Tuesday (28 October).
One of the most recognisable and powerful figures within the game, Karren has achieved great success at boardroom level across football and has spent over two decades combined working at initially Birmingham City and now West Ham.
Karren offered her backing to Kick It Out’s second mentoring conference specifically targeted at women, which aims to encourage mentees to explore all employment opportunities across the football industry through a series of workshops and mentoring sessions.
Mentors include Emma Hayes, Chelsea Women’s manager, Kelly Simmons, The Football Association’s Director of National Game and Women’s Football and Shelley Alexander, Co-founder of Women in Football (WiF) and the BBC’s Editorial Lead for Women’s Sport.
Speaking ahead of the conference, Karren stated the need for more opportunities for women across football and sport. She said: “At West Ham United we are proud of our association with Kick It Out and the many initiatives they undertake including the upcoming Women’s Raise Your Game event.
“Progress has been made where women working in football is concerned but there is still much to be done in terms of increasing female representation at senior management level. I want to see more women on boards to help shape and run sport in this country.
“That is why events like this and all the good work of Kick It Out and Women in Football is vital to encourage and support women into the industry.
“Raise Your Game will provide a great opportunity for those looking to get into jobs in coaching, media, or club management and administration, and also to get free mentoring and genuine insight from women already established in football.”
