Hibernian captain honoured by Show Racism the Red Card
Hibernian FC captain Liam Craig has been inducted into the Show Racism The Red Card Hall of Fame which recognises those who have made an outstanding contribution to eradicating racism from football.
He was inducted after being heavily involved in promoting the campaign’s Creative Competition to Scotland’s schoolchildren.
Show Racism the Red Card is anti-racist educational charities who aim to combat racism through enabling role models, who are predominately but not exclusively footballers, to present an anti-racist message to young people and others.
Liam and team mate James McPake recently took part in an event held within the West Stand at Easter Road which was attended by a number if primary seven pupils from St Mary’s and Lorne Primary Schools.
The midfield star wants to help get the message of inclusiveness, irrespective of race, religion, denomination or ethnicity, out to as many people as possible and said: “It was a great honour to be inducted and I’ve really enjoyed working alongside all the great people at Show Racism The Red Card.
“Footballers are in a privileged position; we can lead the way and help to educate youngsters about the importance of tolerance and acceptance.
“The more people we can help to educate in this country the greater chance we have of stamping out racism.”
