Gills to face Olympic hopefuls
Gillingham FC will face the Senegal Olympic football team in a friendly at Priestfield Stadium on April 17.
Senegal’s athletes are to use Medway as their base for the 2012 Olympics, and the football team will find out next month if they are to be among those at the London Games when they play their final qualifying clash against Oman at the Ricoh Arena on April 23.
Gillingham’s Commercial Director Steve Lowe said: “This is a fantastic chance for our supporters to see international footballers here at MEMS Priestfield Stadium and there are some real stars of the future in the Senegal squad.”
Senegal has provided many players to the Premier League in recent times, such as El Hadji Diouf, Salif Diao, Papa Bouba Diop, Habib Beye and Abdoulaye Faye.
Current Newcastle United stars Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse are both involved in the nation’s senior set-up, and will hope to be in with a chance of representing them in the Games as over-age players should they qualify.
Tickets are priced at just £5 for adults and £2 for Under-16s. For further details, please call the club on 01634 300000.
