Former Kick It Out director honoured at Black List awards
Former Kick It Out director Piara Powar was recognised for his outstanding work at the recent Black List awards at Wembley Stadium.
Powar, who left Kick It Out earlier this year to take up the position of Executive Director at Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE), had been with the organisation since 1997.
Founded by Leon Mann and Rodney Hinds and supported by the FA, PFA, Kick It Out and BCOMS (Black Collective of Media in Sport), the Black List publically recognises afro-Caribbean achievements across all levels of football.
On receiving his award, Powar commented: “I am genuinely surprised and honoured at this award. The work I have tried to do has always been as part of a team and has always had as its end-goal inclusion for all communities at all levels.
“The fact that the African and African-Caribbean community in the UK have sought to offer me this recognition is highly flattering, I am simply glad to have been able, and continue to be able, to contribute to our collective struggle.”
