Football workforce educated on equality through unique Kick It Out course
Thanks to the latest edition of the Equality and Diversity Awareness in Football Award course, run by Kick It Out and Southampton Solent University, over 80 professionals from the football industry now have a greater understanding of inclusion within the game and society.
Developed in 2015, the course has grown exponentially with industry professionals from across County FA’s, English Football League clubs and Premier League teams benefiting from the online learning.
The unique six-unit award was designed to develop critical thinking around issues of equality and diversity within a football context, which can then be applied to create further inclusive practice throughout the industry.
During the latest edition of the course industry professionals from the likes of Everton, the Football Foundation, Mansfield Town and the Football Association of Wales achieved the award.
The course proved to be a hit amongst the participants, with all stating they would recommend the course to colleagues and suggesting it will empower them to apply knowledge around equality within their working environment.
Below is some of the feedback received from individuals who participated during the June 2017 edition of the Equality and Diversity Awareness in Football Award.
“Over the six weeks that I have been completing this course it has given me a greater insight into some of the other Equality ‘issues’ that are faced and it made me more aware of areas of equality and diversity that aren’t related to colour like the ones that I have experienced.” Gifton Noel-Williams, former Watford and Stoke City striker
“The Kick It Out Equality and Diversity course has given me a massive insight into issues of discrimination and prejudice that exist not only in football but in wider society. It’s definitely opened my eyes to the fact that we all have a responsibility to ensure that racism and other forms of discrimination are eliminated from the world.” Rebecca Todd, Futbolistas Football Coaching Director
“I feel like I have been on my own personal journey throughout this course. I have been taught a lesson in Equality whilst reading through the forum entries. I have realised that some of the things I thought were ok are definitely not. I have also seen how damaging the effects of harassment and or bullying are.” Danielle Hett, Mansfield Town
“In summary, I started the course hoping that it would help me with my new role but have finished knowing that it will help me with my work, my coaching, my parenting and how I conduct myself every day.” Chris Smith, Hampshire FA
