Football legends inspire youngsters at Fun Day
Pioneering black footballers Chris Whyte and Paul Canoville inspired youngsters at a Partners Fun Day in Islington last month (12 November).
Chris, who won the old first division title with Leeds United back in 1992, and Paul, the first black player to ever play for Chelsea, spoke to children, aged 6-12, about growing up, their careers in the professional game, how to overcome racial prejudice and the importance of education.
The duo then ran a 5-a-side coaching session before handing out certificates and goody bags.
Other activities taking place on the day included face painting, children’s arts and craft workshops, and a children’s entertainment workshop, with the Deputy Mayor, the local Fire Brigade, the Safe Neighbourhoods Team and St John’s Ambulance.
