Football fan ordered to do community service for racist remarks
A Norwich City fan has been ordered to do community service after making racist comments on Twitter about new signing James Vaughan.
Luke O’Donoughoe, 23, from Norwich, believed to be banned from attending future games at Carrow Road for life earlier this month, becoming the first supporter in the country to receive such a penalty for comments made on a social networking site.
The incident was investigated by Norfolk Police following a complaint from a member of the public and O’Donoughoe was charged with sending an offensive message by public communication network under the Communications Act 2003.
A police spokesman said: “O’Donoughoe appeared at Norwich Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to the offence and was sentenced to a 12-month community order and 120 hours of unpaid work.”
