Fans For Diversity to launch football team with Stonewall clash
Fans For Diversity has established its own football team and will mark its debut with a friendly match against Stonewall FC on Wednesday 22 February – with the campaign seeking players and staff to join for the first game at Imber Court, home of Metropolitan Police FC.
Titled ‘Fans For Diversity FC’, the club will be the embodiment of the campaign which promotes diversity and inclusion across the whole of the game.
Kick It Out and the Football Supporters’ Federation (FSF) jointly launched the ‘Fans For Diversity’ campaign in March 2014, targeting fan-led initiatives to help the game become more diverse and inclusive.
The match against Stonewall will also encompass Kick It Out and the Football Supporters’ Federation’s support for LGBT History Month – with players and staff wearing Football V Homophobia t-shirts in the build-up to the clash.
Fans For Diversity FC will be an all-inclusive team, bringing together individuals from a broad range of communities to participate in a football-club environment. The team will spread the messages of diversity as they play games across the country throughout the year.
Ahead of their first ever game, Fans For Diversity is looking for individuals and groups interested in becoming part of the team to fulfill a number of important roles including players, coaching staff and match officials.
Speaking ahead of the fixture, Anwar Uddin, lead on the Fans For Diversity campaign, is looking forward to the team’s debut.
“I can’t wait for Fans For Diversity FC to kick-off later this month at Imber Court.
“Thanks to support from Stonewall, Surrey FA and the Metropolitan Police, we have been able to create a matchday experience that will celebrate all that is good about football.
“We want to encourage everyone, regardless of background or ability, to come and join the team whether as a player, manager, coach, support staff or fan to be part of something truly unique.”
If you’re interested in joining Fans For Diversity FC in any capacity, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org of no more than 200 words in length, explaining why you want to support the team in your desired role by 5pm on Wednesday 15 February.
