Epsom football festival brings together local community
Surrey County FA, joined forces with The FA, Surrey Police and Epsom Ewell Borough Council, to hold an action-packed football festival engaging all elements of the local community last Saturday (23 July).
A diverse mix of teams competed in the tournament, with representatives from the local Islamic Society, a homeless shelter in Leatherhead, and Limpeza UK and the Green Hornets, teams made of Portuguese and Brazilian nationals respectively, all taking part.
Marcos Bueno, captain of the Green Hornets, who won the competition, said: “It was a great pleasure to play in the tournament and we are now interested in joining an 11-a-side league.”
Mahfuj Ali, who played for EFC, a team competing on behalf of the Islamic Society which won the FA Respect campaign accolade, said: “We’d be 100% keen on doing it again in the future. We should do it every year – it was awesome.”
