David and Ivor Baddiel to discuss antisemitism at European Parliament
David and Ivor Baddiel, who wrote and produced Kick It Out’s ‘Y-word’ film, will be keynote speakers at a symposium discussion on antisemitism at the European Parliament in Belgium today (26 November).
The brothers will raise their concerns about this topic, with much focus on the impact of use of the y-word. They will also take the opportunity to show the film to the assembled audience.
Their presence will be particularly important as the discussion will shed light on the abusive terms used by football fans which can be considered as antisemitic.
The discussion was as a result of the launch of a survey on antisemitism on 6,000 people across countries in Europe by the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) which revealed that a quarter of Jewish people avoid visiting places and wearing symbols that identify themselves as Jewish for fear of antisemitism.
The European Jewish Congress alongside the Inter-Parliamentary Coalition for Combating antisemetism and B’nai B’rith International then felt it was essential that this event was created.
