City supporter charged after allegedly abusing Ashley Young at derby match
A Manchester City fan is due to appear in court after being charged with racially abusing Manchester United winger Ashley Young at the derby.
David Reeves, 24, was charged with racial/religious aggravated harassment, and causing alarm and distress by words and is due to appear at Trafford Magistrates Court on May 26.
The 24-year-old is accused of hurling racial insults towards the United star in their 4-2 defeat of their City rivals on April 12.
Meanwhile, police are working with both clubs to study video footage which emerged following the game.
The footage appeared to show some City fans mocking the Munich Air Disaster, which saw 23 fatalities after the Manchester United team’s plane crashed in 1958.
A GMP spokesman said: “Some of the stewards made us aware that some people made offensive gestures in relation to the Munich Air Disaster. Ourselves and the clubs will be looking into it.”
