Chris Hughton appointed Birmingham City manager
Chris Hughton has been confirmed as Birmingham City manager after completing a deal to fill the vacant post at St Andrew’s.
A club statement said: “Following productive talks acting chairman Peter Pannu felt that Hughton was the perfect candidate to take charge.
“Pannu was particularly impressed by Hughton’s vision and footballing theories of garnering youth and playing attractive and effective football.”
The former Newcastle United manager had been out of football since he was relieved of his duties by the St James’ Park club in December.
Having led the Magpies to the Championship title in 2010, the 52-year-old won the Coaching & Management category at football’s Black List awards.
Hughton joins Charlton Athletic boss Chris Powell as one of only two black managers in English football’s top four divisions.
