Canaries on the ball ahead of ‘Season of Action’ fixture
Premier League side Norwich City are gearing up for a big night at Carrow Road as they show their support for Kick It Out during their dedicated ‘Season of Action’ fixture against Newcastle United.
Norwich have a strong connection to the campaign with manager Chris Hughton and ‘Next 20’ star Nathan Redmond both ambassadors for Kick It Out. Before tonight’s game, the Canaries and Magpies players will wear special t-shirts marking the campaign’s 20 year anniversary.
In addition, the Canaries will run advertisements promoting the Kick It Out app via their LED boards and big screens, and the matchday programme will also feature articles based on the campaign and its work.
One player hoping to feature tonight for the Canaries is winger Redmond. The England Under-21s international is part of Kick It Out’s ‘Next 20’ initiative which aims to champion 20 young rising stars as they help spread the messages of equality and inclusion in football.
He will be giving away his match prepared shirt on social networking website Twitter as part of the evening’s activities. Speaking ahead of the game, Redmond revealed he is privileged to be a involved in the campaign.
“It’s a great honour to be an ambassador,” he said. “I think coming from Birmingham, which is a diverse place, I am probably able to reflect that and also the message they want to get out.”
Norwich are not the only side to host a ‘Season of Action’ fixture this week with League Two side Scunthorpe United already dedicating their match against promotion rivals Fleetwood Town to the campaign last night.
Both teams wore Kick It Out t-shirts in their pre-match preparations as the Iron and Cod Army recognised Kick It Out’s 20th anniversary. The match finished goalless with the sides grabbing a share of the spoils from an entertaining clash at Glanford Park.
