Book featuring Kick It Out blogger Asif Burhan set to launch
Kick It Out blogger Asif Burhan has contributed to a book that marks 50 years since England’s solitary World Cup victory and is set to launch at Waterstones in Piccadilly, London on Thursday 19 May at 7pm.
‘1966 and Not All That’, edited by Mark Perryman, brings together a collection of contributors to explore various themes including why England won in ’66, what kind of country England was back then, the rivalries with Argentina and Germany and how all of that can inform our attitudes to Englishness in the 21st century.
To mark the launch of the book, Mark will be hosting a fiftieth anniversary and pre-Euro 2016 evening of football discussion at Waterstones. He will be joined by contributors David Goldblatt, author of the 2015 William Hill Sports Book of the Year Winner ‘The Game of Their Lives’, Marcela Mora Y Araujo, an Argentine football journalist, Sanaa Qureshi from Football Beyond Borders and Alan Tomlinson, author of ‘FIFA : The Men, The Myths, The Money’.
Along with Asif, other contributors to the book include Amy Lawrence, renowned Guardian journalist and former Raise Your Game mentor, Phillipe Auclair, England correspondent of France Football and Simon Kuper, Financial Times columnist.
