BATE Borisov stadium ban for fans racist taunts
Belarus champions BATE Borisov have been ordered to play one match behind closed doors after fans hurled racist abuse at Shakhtar Donetsk’s Brazilian striker Luiz Adriano.
European football’s governing body UEFA announced the sanction on Wednesday for the fans’ “racist behaviour” during the Champions League match on October 21.
BATE will have to play their next Group H home match against FC Porto on November 25 in an empty stadium.
Adriano scored five goals in Ukrainian champions Shakhtar’s 7-0 demolition of BATE, including the fastest four-goal haul ever recorded in the Champions League, in 17 first-half minutes.
The Ukraine national federation were also brought to book over racist incidents by fans in their 1-0 Euro 2016 qualifying group victory over Macedonia in Kiev, and will have to play their next home match behind closed doors, UEFA ruled.
