Artist seeking footballers for new production
Footballer and artist Ahilan Ratnamohan is seeking footballers of South-Asian heritage for his new artistic performance Mercenary.
The performance will be a football, dance and theatre show exploring the lives of the migrant workers building the 2022 World Cup stadiums in Qatar.
The production will be performed at the London International Festival of Theatre (LIFT), at the Battersea Arts Centre, 21 – 23 June 2018, and Kilowatt Festival (Sansepolcro, Italy) on 22 July 2018.
Ahilan has a unique creative process, working with footballers and movements inherent to football to create choreography that finds itself somewhere between dance and sport.
Ahilan is looking for performers with a specific skill-set and cultural background:
- Footballers with South Asian heritage, namely from India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Nepal.
- Ideally be elite, or close to elite-level, footballers. This could be football, street football or futsal.
- An understanding or movement outside of the football world is beneficial. This could be through dance, martial arts, parkour or free running.
- No previous acting experience necessary.
The commitment for this production is significant. Rehearsals and development of the piece will involve around 8 week’s full-time work in the first half of 2018.
If you would like to get involved you can send either a CV or small biography, with some information about your football or movement experience, to programme@liftfestival.com or call on 020 7968 6800.
