Kick It Out launched its brand new logo on 17 July 2014. The iconic ‘Let’s Kick Racism Out of Football’ branding – which has become globally recognised since the organisation’s inception in 1993 – has been replaced with the slogan ‘Kick It Out – Tackling Racism & Discrimination’.
The decision to make the shift comes as Kick It Out looks for its logo to become more reflective of the breadth of its work across football. The organisation was initially launched to combat racism throughout the game before broadening its remit to tackle all forms of discrimination when Kick It Out was formally constituted in 1997.
The ‘Let’s Kick Racism Out of Football’ slogan was developed by Louis Mackay and Louise Ansari who had been asked by Lord Herman Ouseley, chair and founder of Kick It Out, to come up with a logo for a campaign tackling racism in football when they were at the Commission for Racial Equality (CRE) together 21 years ago.
The new design was produced after consultation with the organisation’s Trustees and Guidance Groups, and has retained key elements of the original logo. It has kept the colours which have become synonymous with Kick It Out, its corner angle, and the striking grass shape has been evolved into a full football pitch tilted on a 3D landscape.
